A "Lost Tribesman"

The painting at left depicts an early soldier of the "lost ten tribes" of the House of Israel. These Israelites, also called "Ephraim" in the Hebrew Scriptures, were conquered and taken into captivity by Assyria between 745 and 676 B.C. The capital of the northern Hebrew kingdom, Samaria, fell to the Assyrians in 721 B.C. A century later, as Assyria tottered and collapsed in 612 B.C., these transplanted Israelites fled north through the Caucasus Mountain pass of Dariel into Eastern Europe to be known by names such as Scythians, Saxons, and Goths. A number of Hebrew scholars through the years have studied and written about these lost Israelites. It is our hope to reproduce on this page many more of their works in the future.
